How to Buy Local or Seasonal Food
Buying local or seasonal food results in your food having a much lower carbon footprint from growing and transport. This is because artificial conditions (such as heating) aren’t required to support this form of growth. To begin taking this action, we need to be more aware of growing cycles, and when certain vegetables are harvested, such as learning which vegetables are naturally available during winter.
Varying diets can have a huge impact on health as well as having a significant beneficial impact on the environment. To start this action, simply start searching for what is seasonal and when shopping choose items which are grown locally. There is the opportunity to learn more each month as well as to find retailers who support this action.
Remember, buying frozen goods isn’t cheating!
